“Our main motive is retaining the league title and this can be evidenced with the format of play and winning our games and only having one stalemate against our main rival Weatherhead,” Baguma noted.

Wananchi Sports Club forward Jackson Musinguzi’s four goals against Makerere university(MAK) stingers in the National hockey league were one of the reasons why they still have their hands tightly gripped on the league title this season.

Jackson Musinguzi, Emmanuel Baguma, Nicholas Lukwago, Shafik Byamukama and Innocent Tumukunde were all on target.

Club captain Emmanuel Baguma believes his side still has the chance of retaining the league title they won last season based on the current form.

“Our main motive is retaining the league title and this can be evidenced with the format of play and winning our games and only having one stalemate against our main rival Weatherhead,” Baguma noted.

Wananchi now are still second on the table levelled on points at 44 with Weatherhead but with 100 goals while table leaders have an 11-goal margin.

“We want to now increase our goal scoring tally as well as reduce the rate at which we concede to maintain our hopes of retaining the league title.”

Wananchi tactician Christopher Otim is confident in his side’s performance but notes that they have many things to put into perspective if they are to retain the title.

“We still have hope of retaining the league title but we only have to keep our heads up to the task of increasing the goal scoring tally."

Weatherhead striker Thomas Opio is the league’s top scorer with 32 goals followed by Wananchi forward Jordan Achaye with 29.

Opio’s teammate Colline Batusa comes in handy with 27 goals while Achaye’s teammate Jackson Musinguzi comes in fourth with 23 goals hence keeping his side close to table leader’s weatherhead.

In the women's league, Deliverance Church of Uganda (DCU) thrashed Thunders hockey club 6-0 with hopes of getting back to its lost glory.
