Wananchi Sports Club (Sc) men’s team has only one shot at lifting a title this season if they beat Weatherhead Hockey Club who clinched the league title on the final day of the season in the Hockey Uganda cup final.

It is set to be a crunchy affair for both sides as Weatherhead seek to reclaim the title they won in 2021 while Wananchi hope to retain bragging rights since they come into the tie as defending champions.

Weatherhead Hockey club captain Moses Tushabe has tasked his teammates to play out their hearts, minds and souls as they face the defending champions.

“Let us work tooth and nail in quest of our second title but keep in mind that our opponents are equally strong and ready to hurt us on the break when we slip in concentration.,” Tushabe cautioned his players.

He noted this on Tuesday evening as his side was doing a training session at Lugogo Hockey stadium.

Wananchi however boasts an experienced formidable attacking force led by Jordan Achaye, Jackson Musinguzi, and midfield maestro Shafik Byamukama.

Wananchi tactician Christopher Otim believes his side can make amends and end the season on a high note.

“We want to finish the 2023 season with a major silverware in our cabinet, we come into the game with hopes of retaining the title we won last season.”

Wananchi beat Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Stallions 5-1

In the ladies category, league champions KHC Swans battled out with Wananchi earlier that day in quest of being double champions.

The winners will be treated to an awards-giving ceremony where the  National Hockey League champions both men and women will be crowned as well as the individual achievers.
