Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans sent a message to any would-be title contenders for the National Hockey League title with a 6-0 win over Makerere University Eagles.

Sisters Winnie Alaro and Norah Alum scored four goals altogether with a hat trick from the former.

Sanne Swinkles also managed to score a brace in the game 

Alaro promises to be a flag bearer for her side in the quest to retain the league title ahead of an action-parked hockey year.

“I am happy to have scored three goals but I also promise to lead my side into the title retention campaign We are using the league to prepare ourselves for the African Cup of Clubs Championships (ACCC),” Alaro stated.

She noted this after the game at Lugogo Hockey Stadium.

Having been out of action last season due to injury, she recovered well and is undergoing rehabilitation to get back to her best form.

“I am getting back after being out due to injury, but my team has helped get me back to two feet, we are not settling down for anything less than title,” she said.

Swans have started the league defence with two sweet wins, and not conceding in a game sent a message that their defensive capabilities have improved a great deal.

In the men’s category, Ranchi SC also started its campaign of dethroning Weatherhead who won the league last season.

They beat Makerere University Stingers 8-1 sending a message of no remorse to the men's tier while the latter also walloped Thunders 11-1 to climb to the top of the summit.
