Weatherhead Hockey Club’s 10-1 thrashing of Kampala Hockey Club Originals sent a message to all the teams in the league that they mean business.

The National Hockey League kicked off over the weekend and the reigning champions Weatherhead showed how much they are focused on retaining the league title.

“We are sending a message to all the other teams in the league that our goal for this season is to clinch the league as early as possible,” Coline Batusa, the Weatherhead’s forward said on Sunday at the National Hockey Stadium in Lugogo.

Batusa, Timothy Ntumba, and Thomas Opio scored a hat trick each, and Brian Okodi scored the other to make it 10 goals.

Batusa also notes that they will use the league as a preparation avenue for the side to streamline themselves for this year’s Africa Cup of Clubs Championships (ACCC).

“We are not settling for the less this season apart from winning the league as well as preparing ourselves for the continental test come November,” he said.

Weatherhead dominated the game from the first whistle and showed how composed they were on the pitch with well-calculated passes to one another with swiftness which beat the Originals, who were worn out by the third quarter.

However, in the women's category, KHC Swans also showed how formidable a side they are in the women’s category beating Thunders 14-1.

Swans‘ forward Sandra Namusoke converted five goals for her side.
