Weatherhead Hockey Club has finally regained its bragging right after winning the National Hockey League on Sunday evening when they thumped rivals Kampala Hockey Club Stallions 2-1.

The 2021 champions had a lot at stake by game one in the league and lived up to the task to finish it on a high with a better goal difference after a 50-point tally between them and wananchi who finished second.

Club captain Moses Tushabe is overjoyed with the team’s performance all season and hopes they will be a better side in the next season.

“I am overjoyed with our performance this season and winning the title on goal difference clearly showed how success-hungry we were all through the season,” Tushabe happily remarked after the game.

The overzealous captain noted this after his side beat Stallions 4-1 in the final league game of the season.

Joseph Okwongo, Maxwel Mugisa, Coline Batussa, and Christopher Kyamanywa each scored one for the champions while Jordan Mpiima scored the only consolation for the latter.

Wananchi SC forward Jordan Achaye was the league's top scorer with 34 goals, followed by Weatherhead’s Thomas Opio at 33 and Batusa at 31.

In the women’s category, Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans were confirmed as league champions after thrashing Thunders 12-0 in the last game of the season.

The champions are set to be handed their titles and medals this Friday after the finals of the Hockey Uganda Cup.
