The Uganda senior women's football team Crested Cranes has been out of action since taking part in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July in Morocco.

The return of the side that finished bottom of Group A was followed by a FUFA announcement that team head coach Geroge Lutalo had been relieved of his duties after his contract had expired with the climax of the tournament.

Uganda Crested Cranes collected a single point, an irksome 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso which came after a 2-0 loss to Senegal and a 3-1 opening loss against the hosts Morocco.

Lutalo and his entire technical team were then relieved of their duties following resolutions of the FUFA executive meeting of 31st August 2022.

However, from the local football governing body-FUFA communications department, the president will this Thursday (30th March 2023) hold a special press conference at FUFA Complex, Mengo regarding all the Uganda National Football Teams.

“FUFA will this Thursday hold a press briefing specifically about the Uganda national football teams and will be addressed by the FUFA President,” Confirmed FUFA communications director Ahmed Hussein.

From this address, it is anticipated that the president will announce the coaching position of the Crested Cranes as it’s the only national team without a technical staff ahead of her coming engagements and or make changes to other national teams’ technical staffing.

Lutalo was assisted by Edward Kaziba with James Magara as goalkeeping coach and Paul Ssali as team manager.

The former URA, Onduparaka FC, Gadaffi tactician, and now at Kitara FC, was named to the position in September 2021, replacing Falida Bulega who had enrolled for a CAF B course in Nairobi.

According to a FUFA statement, there was to be an application process to go through in searching for the new technical team and Lutalo could as well reapply to retain his position.

FUFA manages 10 national teams including the senior men’s national side Uganda Cranes, U-23 Uganda Kobs, U-20 Uganda Hippos, U-17 Uganda Cubs, U-15 The Rhino Cranes, The senior women's team the Crested Cranes, the women U20 The Queen Cranes, the women U17 The Teen Cranes, The men’s beach soccer team The Sand Cranes and the men’s Futsal team and it's not clear whether the president will make an overhaul in the technical staffs of the teams.

Several names Lutalo himself, Ayub Khalifah, Falida Bulega, Charles ‘Mbuzi’ Ayieko, Hamza Lutalo, Majida Nantanda, Christine Wanyana, and Edward Kaziba.
