International Friendly: Morocco 1 Uganda 1

Coach Sheryl Botes has insisted that the Crested Cranes playing friendly ties against top sides in Africa will only prepare the team for the big stage.

This after they settled for a 1-1 draw with African giants Morocco on Friday at Pere Jego Stadium.

"Surprisingly the girls understood what we wanted. I'm proud of what they have achieved. It was not easy but the girls fought from the start of the game. I'm happy for the performance more than the result,” she stated.

“I know we can and we need these kinds of games year in and year out to test our players," she added.

Skipper Fauzia Najjemba gave Uganda the lead in the 8th minute after converting from the spot.

A few moments later, goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro saved Moroccan captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s penalty kick as Uganda led the first half 1-0.

In the second half, the home side levelled matters through Elodie Nakkach in the 64th minute.

Cranes went on to remain compact as they shared the spoils.

The two sides will meet again on Tuesday in Rabat.
