She Corporates coach Charles Ayiekoh has been impressed with the character of his players as they managed to storm the semifinals of the CAF Women Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.

Ayiekoh was speaking after She Corporates thrashed Djibouti’s Garde Republic 8-0 on Saturday at Azam Complex Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam.

“I’m happy that my players managed to put up a good show. That’s the character we missed in our game against Simba. We showed that we were hungry for everything we did. We didn’t give our opponents any chance since we knew what we wanted. This is just the beginning since we want the same performance even in the semifinals," stated Ayiekoh.

“We have seen how the teams in the other group play. We want to sit down and prepare well since the stage we have reached is not easy. If we can believe in ourselves, we can achieve our goal”.

To show that She Corporates were in a must-win situation, they even made several changes to the starting lineup. Cissy Nakate replaced Amina Nakato in right back while Naluyimba Esther handed a full debut to replace captain Naome Nagadya. Favour Nambatya replaced Anita Namata to lead the attack.

From the first minute of the game, She Corporates showed a winning mentality, and just after three minutes of play Nambatya gave them a lead before Phionah Nabbumba doubled it in the 5th minute.

She Corporates run riot as Nabbumba and Nambatya each registered a brace in the 20th and 36th minutes respectively. Joan Ainembabazi made it 5-0 with four minutes to halftime.

At the restart of the second half, Nambatya registered her third goal of the day in the 50th minute before Jackeline Nakasi made it 6-0 in the 61st minute.

Midfielder Nabbumba who has so far been She Corporates' best player in the competition scored her third in 89 minutes as She Corporates went to win the match 8-0. This was Nabbumba’s fifth goal in the competition.

She Corporates finished second in group B with six points behind leaders Simba Queens who defeated Yei Joint Stars 4-0 to register maximum points in the group stages.

The Ugandan representatives will either face Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC or AS Kigali of Rwanda in the semifinals on Wednesday. These two sides have six points each although CBE was top of the group due to a better goal difference. They were supposed to face off on Sunday to decide who tops Group A.

This year’s edition which will run till Sunday in Dar es Salaam will have the eventual winner progress to the continental finals in Morocco later this year.
