Woman's decomposing body found in Wakiso sugarcane plantation

WAKISO - Detectives in Wakiso District are investigating a suspected case of murder following the discovery of a decomposing woman’s body in a sugarcane plantation in Kayanga cell, Kiteezi Parish, on October 13, 2025.

The body, which was found wrapped in a polythene bag, was discovered by residents harvesting cane at around 5:00pm.

The locals immediately alerted authorities, prompting the arrival of homicide detectives and a Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) from Kiteezi Police Station.

Preliminary findings suggest that the victim may have been sexually assaulted before being killed, based on the injuries and the manner in which the body was concealed.

“The scene indicates a possible rape and murder, followed by an attempt to hide the evidence,” said a detective familiar with the case.

The remains were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. DNA samples are being collected to aid in the identification process, while investigators analyse missing person reports from Wakiso and neighbouring divisions.

Experts say the plantation’s isolation likely made it an ideal disposal site for the perpetrators.

“Criminals often use such dense sugarcane fields because they are rarely patrolled and provide cover,” said a retired homicide investigator.

The case has been registered under SD 41/13/10/2025 at Kiteezi Police Station, and inquiries are ongoing. Police have appealed to anyone with information about missing persons or suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

In April 2017, 23 women were killed in Nansana and Entebbe, both in Wakiso district.

Several suspects were arrested and charged with terrorism, murder, and aggravated robbery at Nabweru and Entebbe Chief Magistrates’ Courts before being remanded to various government prisons.
