Police in Buikwe District are hunting for a farmer suspected of murdering his wife in a violent attack in Ssugu Village, Ssi sub-county.

The deceased has been identified only as Talinde, a resident of Ssugu Village. Police said Talinde was allegedly killed by her husband, identified as Joseph Seruwenda, on October 20, 2026.

According to Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa regional police spokesperson, the incident was reported after information emerged from the community that the couple had experienced domestic violence before the killing.

Butoto said the suspect allegedly cut his wife's neck, head and other parts of her body.

Police said the motive for the killing had not yet been established, while inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident were ongoing.

The suspect was still at large by the time of the police statement, and efforts to arrest him were underway.

The deceased’s body was taken to Kawolo Hospital for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death and support investigations.

Police described the suspect as a farmer residing in the same village.

Butoto said information received by police indicated that the suspect had a history of drug abuse, including opium smoking and heavy consumption of waragi. Seruwenda had reportedly received treatment at Butabika Hospital about five months earlier after experiencing a mental health crisis.

Police have not yet established the circumstances under which Seruwenda left the hospital.

Investigations into the murder are ongoing, as police pursue the suspect.
