The Police in Soroti City in eastern Uganda are investigating the death of a 20-year-old woman following what was initially reported as a domestic fight.
Joan Catherine Iriamu was a mother of one.
Police have since arrested her 26-year-old husband, Francis Opila, as the main suspect in the tragic incident.
The couple are reported to have engaged in the deadly fight Wednesday night in Ogasia Cell, Soroti East Division.
A postmortem examination will help establish the cause of death, Police said.
An eyewitness, Filominah Atwele, who said she participated in apprehending the suspect before he was handed over to Police, said the couple began fighting at a bar and video hall.
However, it remains unknown what circumstances led to the death of Iriamu.
Gorreti Adongo said that her daughter had experienced repeated fights with Opila.
She also attributed the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death to excessive drinking and substance use.
Soroti City East Division councillor Ikaya Salume Emesu condemned the incident, describing it as a concern for the community.
