Marriage is a partnership between two people, but many couples are allowing parents, pastors and friends to become involved in issues that should remain between husband and wife.

Speaking at the Bride & Groom Expo, held at the UMA Show Grounds from Friday to Sunday, Pastor Isaac Rwomushana cautioned couples against sharing intimate details of their marriages with third parties, saying the habit often weakens relationships instead of strengthening them.

“Parents can be part of your life, but don’t allow them to make decisions for your marriage,” he told a packed audience at the expo, organised by Vision Group.

Pastor Rwomushana said many married women frequently seek guidance from pastors when faced with challenges in their relationships.

While counselling has its place, he encouraged couples to first learn to communicate openly with each other before involving outsiders.

According to him, many marriages would be stronger and more enduring if husbands and wives resolved their differences through honest conversations rather than exposing private matters to parents, pastors or friends.

He urged couples to build trust, safeguard the privacy of their homes and make decisions together as partners.
