If you have struggled with persistent skin problems despite trying different products, or noticed changes after using contraceptives, skin experts say the answer is not experimenting with every skincare product on the market, but understanding your skin first.

Speaking at the Bride & Groom Expo, taking place at the UMA Multipurpose Hall in Lugogo from 26–28 June 2026, Annette Komugisha of Daanya Skin Expert Uganda urged people to stop self-medicating with skincare products and seek professional advice before starting any skincare routine.

According to Komugisha, healthy skin begins with a routine tailored to an individual's skin type, starting with a professional skin analysis to identify the most suitable products.

"The first step is to have your skin analysed by a professional and understand your skin type. From there, you can build a skincare routine using three or four products, including a cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen. If you have a specific skin concern, then treatment products can be added," she explained.

She stressed that consistency is essential, noting that effective skincare takes time.

"There is no magic solution. Be patient, stay consistent with your routine and always follow up with the professional who recommended your products," she advised.

At the expo, Daanya Skin Expert Uganda is offering professional skin analysis using specialised equipment at a promotional fee of sh20,000, enabling clients to receive personalised skincare routines based on their individual needs. The company is also offering a 50% discount on all skincare products throughout the exhibition.

Komugisha said one of the biggest challenges they encounter is the misuse of skin-lightening products. She explained that many people confuse skin brightening with skin whitening, often resulting in unwanted bleaching.

"We do not recommend skin whitening. During consultations, we first understand what the client wants before recommending products. We don't simply sell products; we provide professional guidance," she said.

She also raised concern about the growing number of people suffering from eczema, attributing many cases to prolonged use of steroid-based creams such as hydrocortisone, as well as unsuitable skincare products.

"Many people develop itchy skin and eczema because they use the wrong products or overuse steroid creams. We have treatment options for people experiencing these conditions," she added.

Komugisha said the cost of skincare depends on an individual's skin type and concerns. However, with the expo discounts, a basic skincare routine costs about sh150,000, compared to around sh350,000 at the clinic.

She encouraged the public to seek professional consultation and invest in safe, personalised and sustainable skincare routines instead of chasing quick fixes.

The Bride & Groom Expo 2026, themed Beyond I Do: A Journey of Love, Home and Family, brings together leading wedding and lifestyle brands, offering visitors expert advice, exclusive discounts and the latest products and services.

Entrance is sh10,000.
