Police have preferred charges of murder and aggravated robbery against seven suspects, who were recently arrested during a joint security forces operation in the Masaka region.

According to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson, Charles Mansio Twiine, the seven suspects were attacking boda boda riders in Masaka.

“The seven suspects associated with the recent spate of violent crimes against boda boda riders in Masaka, have today October 7, 2021, been charged to Masaka Court with offences of Aggravated Robbery and Murder,” Twiine revealed in a tweet Thursday.

He said Police will continue to ensure that the Greater Masaka region is pacified.

Security agencies have arrested over 70 suspects in connection with violent crime and panga attacks that rocked the Greater Masaka region recently.

Among the suspects are two MPs: Muhammad Segirinya (Kawempe North) and Allan Sewanyana (Makindye West).

Court released the two MPs, but security personnel re-arrested them immediately after being released from prison. The two have since been arraigned in court on new charges.

The two MPs are part of the 19 people facing charges of: murder, attempted murder, treason, abetting treason, and incitement to violence, among others.

The charges follow their alleged involvement in the panga attacks in the Greater Masaka region, in which 26 people were killed and several others were left wounded.
