Bishop Jjumba launches Masaka diocese synodal resolutions, asks Christians to live in solidarity

The Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Serverus Jjumba, has put it to the Catholic faithful to be practical in their Christian living by loving and taking care of each other.
“As followers of Christ who are also serious with our faith, we need to live and work together. We should not abandon our brethren who are in dire need. If we see anyone of us suffering, lacking or being troubled, let us console them. Let us extend to them the love and compassion of Jesus,” Jjumba said.

Bishop Jjumba said Christian solidarity was not just a matter of choice but the perfect way of Christian living that all the Catholic faithful were required to assimilate and practice.
About the Synod
The Synod of Masaka Diocese, the sixth of its kind, was proclaimed by Bishop Serverus Jjumba in 2024. From then, seminars were given to the Christians throughout the diocese.

According to Fr. Dr. Jude Jjuuko (the Chancellor of Masaka Diocese), the delegates, who numbered about 300, were carefully selected from the various parishes of the diocese. The delegates also included priests, Catechists, professionals such as lawyers, educationists, medics, etc. Children, youth, religious institutes such as Bannakarooli Brothers, and political and cultural leaders also had representation.
The proposals and recommendations of the synod were compiled and presented to Bishop Serverus Jjumba, who, after careful study, deep reflection, and meditation, formulated them into acts and decrees. Jjumba said the respective acts/decrees will be the guiding principles of the pastoral activities and programs of the diocese.
“The respective synodal statutes are not just administrative rules but the blue-print of how to live the gospel together. Study them carefully and implement them to the letter, with faith, passion and zeal,” Jjumba said.
The prelate said the synodal acts and decrees would make Masaka diocese an evangelised, /evangelizing Church, united, coordinated and self-sustaining Church, based on the model of Basic Christian communities, locally referred to as “Butabi.”
He spoke well of the acts, saying they would enhance the spirit of ecclesial synodality, whereby the Christians walk on the same path and work together to build the Church in a collaborative style (of Church life), with special attention to the Basic Christian Communities, which he said, were a reliable method of evangelisation.

Those who received copies of the book included the Superior General of the Bannakarooli Brothers, Bro. Hillary Kazoora and the Head of the Laity of Masaka Diocese, Regina Kitaka.
Bishop Jjumba announced a committee that will ensure the full implementation of the synodal statutes. Members of the committee include the Pastoral Coordinator and Moderator of the Synod, Fr. James Ssendege, Fr. John Bosco Kabaalu, Joseph Mary Ssemwogerere, Catechist Dorotia Kazibwe and others.
Jjumba said the first three months will be dedicated to sensitising the faithful on the respective statutes, subsequent to which they will be implemented. He stated November 22 (2026) as the date on which the decrees will take effect.
The activities ran under the theme: I am the Vine, you are the branches.
It should be noted that the last synod of Masaka Diocese was convened by Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa (RIP) in 2003.
Jjumba confirms 300 students
During the same function, Bishop Serverus Jjumba confirmed 300 students. The prelate put it to newly confirmed to be devoted and steadfast members of the Church, who also express the faith in their words and actions.
