MASAKA - Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammed Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana are set to return to Masaka Police, Tuesday for further interrogation on murder and attempted murder charges preferred to them by the detectives.

On Monday the two MPs were grilled by the Police but later set free at around 8:00pm and asked to report back today.

According to Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya were the masterminds behind the vicious murders that rocked Greater Masaka area between July and August in which close to 30 people were killed.

“The suspects in their admissions clearly indicate how they were recruited, taken through the intentionally designed plans in a meeting at Ndeeba, and create animosity against elderly victims, who do not share their views.

The suspects were promised wealth as a motivating factor. And that it is under the command of the two politicians that the victims were hacked and beaten to death.  It is further alleged that the politicians facilitated the movement of the assailants and induced them to commit the atrocities against their victims,” Enanga said.

However, both legislators claim they were out of the country on the date the murders took place and that these charges were fabricated.

Their lawyer Shamim Malende (Kampala Woman MP) and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Monday confirmed the two had been charged with murder.

“Segirinya and Ssewanyana are charged with murder of three people Sulaiman Kakooza, Kizito Mugerwa, and Tadeo Kiyimba and attempted murder of Ronald Sebyooto. The allegation is that all this happened in the night of August 23, 2021 at Setaala and Senya villages in Kimanya Kabonero in Masaka district,” Malende said.

Both Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana reported to Masaka Police on Monday where they were quizzed until around 8:00 pm.

Lukwago noted it had been a strenuous day for them at the Central Police Station where the two MPs were interrogated and later given a police bond to report today (Tuesday) at midday.
