Mabirizi argues that the disconnection of the services during presidential and parliamentary elections is a breach of the Constitution and constitutes a threat to Ugandan citizens’ fundamental rights to equality and freedom from discrimination, right to life and freedom of speech.
“I am going to stand for president. Of course, I stood in 2021 just to test the waters. The purpose of all of it is this one (the 2026 election). Anything I did there (in the 2021 campaigns) was for this reason,” he said.
Kikonyogo expressed frustration over what he termed as the systematic erosion of IPOD’s core values, which were once seen as instrumental in strengthening Uganda’s multiparty democracy.
Kituuma said the overall electoral environment remains calm despite isolated incidents of violence, tension and voter intimidation in some areas.
