President Yoweri Museveni is today, December 18, 2025, launching his quest for re-election in the Greater Masaka region, with two rallies in the districts of Rakai and Lyantonde.
The other districts in this area are Kyotera, Lwengo, Kalangala, Kalungu, Masaka, Bukomansimbi, Gomba and Sembabule.
Rakai and Lyantonde are among the few of Museveni’s traditional strongholds in the central region that were not captured by the National Unity Platform in the last general election.
The other districts where Museveni cemented his status in the 2021 Presidential election are Mubende, Sembabule, Kyankwanzi, Nakasongola, Nakaseke and Kiboga.
The 81-year-old hat-wearing leader is campaigning for his seventh elected term in office on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.
By the time of writing this story, he was set to hold his first rally of the day in Rakai at Kibale playground and his second and final political event in Lyantonde at Kaliro town council playground.
Museveni is campaigning under the theme: Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.
The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements over the past 39 years, such as peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to a high middle-income status.
Other gains include wealth creation initiatives, job opportunities, service delivery, market access, as well as East African political federation.
