President Yoweri Museveni has hailed National Resistance Movement (NRM) party supporters in Bukomansimbi district for braving heavy rain to attend his campaign rally on December 22, 2025.

This second and final political event was at Mirembe Muslim Primary School playground in Kitanda sub-county, Bukomansimbi.

The rain started immediately as the NRM Presidential candidate in the forthcoming general election walked towards the podium to make a speech at the rally that attracted thousands of people.

It lasted for almost 50 minutes, but did not dampen his enthusiastic supporters’ spirits, who started gathering from the early hours under the grey skies.

Museveni, who was dressed in a camouflage jacket and his trademark Stetson hat, addressed them while holding an umbrella.

“Today, you have confirmed that you are grandchildren of the fighters. You have shown all those who want finished things that the grandchildren of the fighters don’t joke; that they have the blood of their grandfathers. Thank you for braving the rain,” he said.

“I think NUP (National Unity Platform) had brought the drought because ever since we entered Buganda, it has been raining here,” he joked.

The NRM Presidential candidate used the event to reflect on Uganda’s history.

He recalled that long before colonial times, wars were common among kingdoms, and even today, some people in the neighbouring countries are still at war.

“Uganda is now hosting about two million refugees. Our peace did not come by chance, and it must be protected,” he said.

Museveni also highlighted several achievements of the NRM government in economic infrastructure, including roads, mobile communications, electricity and safe water.

In agriculture, he noted that Bukomansimbi is doing well in coffee, and to strengthen this in a dry area, he promised that micro-irrigation would be added to boost production.

He also pledged that work would continue on the roads of Sembabule–Matete–Mbirizi and Matete–Kibinge–Kyabakuza.

He reminded the residents that while development supports them all, escaping poverty is a personal decision.

“When I bought land in Kisozi (Gomba district) in 1990, there were no roads or electricity, but by the time they came, wealth was already in place,” he said, urging every household to take responsibility for its income.

In Bukomansimbi, out of the nine sub-counties, six are connected to electricity. In the next term, the Government plans to extend electricity to the remaining sub-counties of Bukango and Butenga, and Kagologolo town council.

The district also has 39 parishes, with 22 hosting at least one Government primary school, while 17 are still lacking. It also has nine sub-counties, with five hosting at least one Government secondary school, while four are still lacking.

Regarding health, one sub-county in Bukomansimbi has a Health Centre (HC) IV, and three have HCs III. However, the three town councils of Bukomansimbi, Kigangazzi, and Kagologolo do not have a health facility of either HCIII, HCIV, or a hospital, and neither do Butenga and Bukango sub-counties.

However, the NRM Government plans to upgrade Bigasa HCIII in Bukomansimbi North to a HCIV and Kigangazzi HCII in Kigangazzi town council to a HCIII. It also plans to construct new HCIIIs in the town councils of Bukomansimbi and Kagologolo as well as in the sub-counties of Butenga and Bukango.

In the water sector, out of 254 rural villages in Bukomansimbi, 227 have access to a safe water source, representing a coverage of 89.4%. This leaves 27villages (10.6%) without access to safe water.
