Wakiso Giants FC has officially parted ways with head coach Steven Bengo following a tough 2024/25 season that ended with the team’s relegation to the FUFA Big League.
The club announced this decision in a statement released on Wednesday, June 18th.
“Wakiso Giants FC can confirm that Head Coach Bengo Steven has left his position immediately after the 2024/25 season,” the statement said.
This move comes after a disappointing season in the Uganda Premier League, where the club only managed three wins and 11 draws out of 30 matches, finishing with just 20 points. The team’s struggle to stay in the top tier led to a reevaluation of the coaching staff.
“While this outcome is tough for everyone involved with Wakiso Giants, we appreciate Coach Bengo’s hard work and passion during his time with us,” the statement continued.
Bengo joined the Purple Sharks with a lot of promise but faced numerous obstacles throughout the season.
Despite his dedication, the team had a hard time maintaining consistent performance.
“After reviewing the season and recognizing the need for some changes to rebuild, the club believes a new direction in leadership is needed,” the statement added
The club is already working on finding a new head coach as they aim to bounce back to the top flight quickly.
“We’re currently in the process of selecting a new head coach and are focused on building a strong technical team to take Wakiso Giants back to the top level,” the club confirmed.
Wakiso Giants, known for their exciting style of play and dedicated fans, now faces a significant rebuilding period.
The new coach will need to turn things around and lead the team back to the Uganda Premier League.
“We want to sincerely thank Coach Bengo for his contributions to the club and wish him the best in his future,” the statement concluded.
