Fresh off their first-ever promotion to the Uganda Premier League, Calvary FC is set to compete in the 2025 Dire Cup, a prestigious pre-season tournament held mid-August at Dire Dawa International Stadium in Ethiopia.
The tournament is organised by Gofere Sports (Calvary’s kit sponsor), in partnership with the Dire Dawa City Administration and Soccer Federation. It serves as a high-profile warm-up for top African clubs, offering competitive fixtures and continental exposure.
Calvary FC, based in Yumbe District, earned the opportunity after winning the 2024/25 FUFA Big League, overcoming strong sides like Police FC and Booma FC to secure their top spot.
“We’re thrilled about the invitation. It’s a valuable opportunity for our players to measure themselves against some of Africa’s best and raise the club’s profile,” said club CEO Joel Gadafi.
The Dire Cup has previously hosted Ugandan sides such as URA FC, Wakiso Giants, and SC Villa. Now Calvary joins the ranks as they build momentum ahead of their debut in Uganda’s top flight.
Preparations for the Premier League season are already underway, with the Dire Cup poised to sharpen Calvary’s readiness for elite competition.
