The NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Tournament kicked off today at the Lugogo Sports Complex, drawing a vibrant mix of local and regional teams eager to challenge the long-standing dominance of Rwandan sides.

Over the next three days, fans can expect intense and gritty volleyball action across multiple courts at Lugogo Arena and the Hockey Pitch.

It’s been several years since a Ugandan team claimed top honors in the tournament, and while the men’s category remains a tough battleground, there’s renewed optimism on the women’s side. Defending national league champions KCB-Nkumba headline a strong lineup that includes hosts KAVC, KCCA, COBAP, Seroma, Elyon, UPDF, Kampala University, and Bukedea.

With two recent league champions in the mix, the women’s competition promises a higher level of play and fierce contention for the title.

Backed by a Sh120 million sponsorship from NSSF unveiled earlier this month, the tournament offers lucrative rewards: Sh10 million for the champions, Sh8 million for runners-up, and Sh5 million for the third-placed team. The stakes are high, and Ugandan teams are determined to rise to the occasion, playing with heart and resilience to reclaim regional glory.

In the men’s category, KAVC leads the Ugandan charge alongside KCCA, Police, Elyon, Bukedea, Kampala University, and Sky. These teams will be looking to break the Rwandan stronghold and make a statement on home soil.

The tournament is being held under the theme “Championing Better Community Health and Behaviour Through Sports,” emphasizing the role of athletics in promoting wellness and positive values.

Beyond the elite competition, the event also features junior and corporate categories, culminating in the NSSF KAVC 2025 Primary Schools’ Finals on the closing day. In the boys’ U-14 final, Proline Volleyball Academy will face Samaritan Primary School, while the U-12 showdown pits Sunrise Primary School against Proline. On the girls’ side, Samaritan Primary School will take on Sunrise in both the U-14 and U-12 finals.

With community engagement, youth development, and top-tier volleyball all in play, the NSSF KAVC International promises to be a thrilling celebration of sport and spirit.
