KCB Nkumba Women’s Volleyball Club is poised to continue its strong start to the 2025 National Volleyball League as the team returns to action on Saturday, November 1, at Nsambya.
The seven-time national champions will face Nemoster Ladies in the morning before taking on Police Volleyball Club later in the afternoon.
So far, KCB Nkumba has played just one league match—an impressive 3–2 victory over defending champions Sport-S during the season opener. Subsequent fixtures were postponed due to the absence of two key players, Peace Busingye and Nancy Chebet, who were representing Uganda at the CAVB Zone V Beach Volleyball Championship in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The duo delivered a stellar performance at the continental event, securing a bronze medal after rallying to defeat Tanzania’s Evalyne Albert and Mariam Omary 2–1 (16–21, 21–15, 21–10) in the third-place playoff. It marked Uganda’s first medal at this year’s championship.
Now back with the squad, Chebet and Busingye have rejoined their teammates in preparation for the upcoming league fixtures. Head coach Tony Lakony expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to build on their winning momentum.
“We respect all our opponents, but we’re focused on playing our game and maintaining discipline,” Lakony said. “Our goal is to keep the momentum from our first win and fight for every point. Having Nancy and Peace back gives us confidence and balance—their international experience will lift the whole team as we face tough matches on Saturday.”
KCB Nkumba’s rescheduled fixtures will be played at Nsambya on Saturday, starting with Nemoster at 10:00 a.m. and UPDF at 2:00 p.m.
Other matches on the day include Elites versus Mutungo at 12:00 p.m., followed by St. Charles against Elites at 4:00 p.m.
In the men’s Serie B division, action at the same venue will feature Wazeei versus Prison at 10:00 a.m., Gulu City against UPDF at midday, Wazeei returning to face Nkumba at 2:00 p.m., and Prison meeting Gulu City at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, Wazeei will play Mutungo at 10:00 a.m., with Mutungo later facing Gulu City at 2:00 p.m.
Earlier this month, KCB Bank Uganda renewed its title sponsorship of the Nkumba Women’s Volleyball Team—a partnership that began in 2019. The continued support helps the team meet logistical needs and promotes the growth of women’s volleyball in Uganda.
KCB Nkumba boasts a decorated history, having won the National League seven times and the National Clubs Championship six times. The club has represented Uganda six times at the African Women Clubs Championship, achieving its best continental ranking of ninth. Internationally, the team holds titles including the Rwanda Genocide Cup, the NSSF KAVC International Tournament, and five Aporu Okol Tournament trophies.
