There was an air of excitement in Soroti as Soroti Cricket Academy recognised the 2023 best cricketers in the region.

The accolades earned by the talented players not only highlight personal triumphs but also the academy’s dedication to nurturing exceptional talent.

Felix Musana, the Chairman and founder of Soroti Cricket Academy said the ceremony held at Soroti Cricket offices is part of the 9th-anniversary dinner to celebrate their journey and accomplishments.

“I want to thank the players for their dedication to the sport, as the academy, we emphasize investing in young athletes and the growth of cricket in the region,” Musana echoed.

According to Musana, stakeholders’ contributions are crucial for the academy’s success, so we encouraged potential sponsors to come on board and join the cause.

“We have come a long way, it’s our cry that we welcome well-wishers such as sponsors, religious leaders, and companies to give a hand and support the game to expand opportunities of organizing tournaments and granting scholarships,” he observed.

The ceremony attended by parents, clergy and politicians, school teachers, and players saw nine accolades handed over to Juma Sururu (Best Bowler), Jacob Malinga (Best Batter), Gideon Outeke (youngest player) and Ronald Ebulu (Soroti City Men’s team) in the male category.

In just a minute after receiving his accolade, Ronal Ebulu extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Soroti Cricket Academy for realizing his dream and embracing him as part of the Soroti family.

Under the Girls’ category, Kevin Amuge from Olila High School club secured the (Best Bowler) award, Esther Iloku (Best Batter), Josephine Icumar (Youngest Player), Naome Amongin (Player of the Year) and Phiona Kulume (Player of the Year Soroti city ladies’ team).

Esther Iloku while giving her speech as the best Batter thanked her parents for their support and encouraged younger players to keep pursuing their passion.

She highlighted the journey since 2014, commended Felix Musana’s leadership, emphasized the need for more team sponsorship, and looked forward to the next milestone as the academy approaches a decade.

 

Harriet Kulume, parents’ representative while addressing the crowd applauded Soroti Cricket Academy for such good invocation which has exposed players to local, national, and international competitions.

She encouraged parents to allow children to expose their talents in whatever discipline a child is good at for the betterment of his or her future.

Davis Arinaiwe, Development Manager Uganda Cricket Association) Guest of honor in his speech, esteemed guests, it’s an honor, on behalf of UCA, to appreciate Soroti cricket academy SCA, for raising the standard of cricket in Teso.

Cricket’s profound influence on our lives and community is evident. I express heartfelt gratitude to those devoted to SCA’s growth, uplifting Soroti cricket, and inspiring dreams, evident in players reaching Uganda’s top levels.

Today, as we applaud our winners, let’s anticipate cricket’s promising future as a bastion of excellence. My sincere congratulations to all who’ve nurtured SCA’s success.
