Emma Twijukye, Olila High School cricket coach has instructed his players to use the same energy, passion, and desire they possessed in last year’s victory against Light SS in the girl’s cricket week tournament at Teso College cricket oval, Soroti City.

Twijukye was speaking during preparation for the forthcoming girls cricket week tournament scheduled for May 4 to 11 to be hosted at St Mary’s Girls SS. The five-day tournament that will be played in the T20 format is expected to bring together 15 schools selected from the six regions of Uganda which include Central, Masaka, Nile, West, North, and East.

Among schools that have confirmed participation are Gayaza High School, Ndejje SS, St John Mukono, Kings College Budo, Masaka SS, Iganga SS, Lord’s Meade Vocational School, Jinja SS, Victoria High School, Kilembe SS, Mt Rwenzori Girls, Gulu High school, Olila High school, Light SS and St Mary’s girl’s SS. Olila High School was last year crowned champions after beating the Light SS girls cricket side by 78 wickets.

“I need you to be aggressive the same way you did against Light SS. I want to see the same energy and desire from everyone," said Twigukye.

“We have done more than enough to enable you to win the overall trophy again. It’s now upon you to showcase what you have gained from training.”

Felix Musana, the chairperson of Soroti Cricket Academy applauded Uganda Cricket Association for identifying Teso region as the host of the girl’s cricket week.

“It’s a privilege to have such kinds of competitions in the area because the business community will have the business of their products,” Musana said.

The 2024 edition of the girl’s Cricket week will be held in Soroti city for the 2nd time as some of the plans are aimed at spreading the game away from Kampala.
