It was an occasion to rejoice as Soroti Cricket Academy fielded 11 players on the first day and 10 on the second to defeat both Namibia and Sierra Leone.

Their victory over Namibia was perhaps the most impressive since Namibia had been touted as a clear favourite in the championship. They defeated Namibia by four wickets after a strong batting performance.

The secret to Uganda's success was the effort of young Patricia Timong from Soroti Cricket academy. The young star was colossal in the opening day victory over Namibia where they won the toss and elected to bat. They were rewarded for their effort when they allowed Namibia on 85/5 in 20 overs.

Timong took 3/7 and scored a valiant 18 runs to help Uganda over the line. She was supported by Annet Anume who too2/7 while young Malisa Ariokot scored 20 runs. She further reiterated her strength against Sierra Leone by scoring 29 runs alongside Sandra Achawo 48 as Uganda set a score of 107 and defended it Timong took 2/16 reiterating her strength as an all-rounder.

Uganda will play again on Tuesday against hosts Botswana but they will need to work on their fielding since they have dropped 10 catches in both matches.

“The match went well though we were kind of losing it at some point but we kept our energies high and we have our morale of not giving up. I think it's pressure but I still believe we are a good bowling side,” said captain Jimia Muhamed.
