The opening round of the National Motocross Championship will take place this Saturday rather than the usual Sunday at the Victoria Raceway Track in Garuga, Entebbe.

The February 27, 2024, calendar opener is expected to be a thrilling, action-packed event as riders renew their rivalry for the national silverware in the different classes.

Milton Akaki, Jeremiah Mawanda and Waleed Omar shift their unfinished business from the MX125cc class to the MX2 class.

Last year, the two friends Waleed and Akaki, were wheel-to-wheel during all the events with the two sharing wins in the competitions.

Mawanda came in later to spoil the party for the two in different events and is now out to do the same on Saturday.

“We are ready. Garuga is dry and I know it is going to be a fast race, but he is ready for the challenge,” Ali Omar Snr said.

National champion Gift Sebuguzi leaves the 85cc class and will be racing in the MX125cc together with Ronnie Young.

Ramathan Mubiru and Miguel Katende who were in the 65cc class, take the fight to the 85cc class where they find Jerome Mubiru who last time around gave Gift Sebuguzi a good challenge.

Unlike last year when many riders imported new bikes for the season, the market has been silent as riders stuck to old machines.

Denzilanta Balidawa, the event organiser said the battleground is set, and they are waiting for the riders to showcase what they have.

“The track is good. This time the first 50 fans will pay half of the ticket cost and the top three finishers in each class shall receive a cash prize on top of the trophy,” Baliddawa said.
