KAMPALA - Agnes Nabukenya and Allen Nassazi scored two well-taken second-half goals for Kawempe Muslim Ladies to defeat rivals and defending champions Kampala Queens 2-0 on Sunday at the Kawempe Valley grounds to win their first-ever FUFA Women Super League title.

Kawempe came into the match leading the table standings with 37 points, one more than Kampala Queens in second place.

This meant that Kawempe needed a draw to be crowned champions while for the Queens, it was a must-win win in order to retain the title.

Kampala Queens started the game the hungrier side and Catherine Nagadya who led their striking line, forced Kawempe goalkeeper Juliet Adeke into making two fine saves in the first half.

When the two teams returned for the second half, Kawempe stepped up and took control of the proceedings.

Backed by their home fans and students who had just returned to school for the second term, Kawempe pressed the Queens and forced them into making unnecessary fouls, one of which led to the opening goal.

Nabukenya's goal in the 65th minute was from a free kick that Kampala Queens gave away cheaply outside the box.

Nassazi's goal was also due to slack defending by Kampala Queens for her to double Kawempe’s lead in the 76th minute.

For a team that came needing nothing but victory to be champions, after conceding two goals with little time left on the clock, the Kampala Queens waved the white flag in the final 10 minutes of the match.

This is Kawempe's fifth league title but their first in the rebranded FUFA Women's Super League.

Coach Ayub Khalifah Kiyingi has guided the side to all five titles.

Kawempe also dominated the individual awards where Nabukenya was voted as the MVP and also shared the Golden Boot with Sharon Namatovu of Makerere with 10 goals each.

Juliet Adeke their goalkeeper took home the golden glove after keeping 13 clean sheets in 18 matches.

Kawempe Muslim will now represent Uganda in the CECAFA Zonal CAF Women Champions League qualifiers for next season.
