FUFA Women Elite League
Playoff final
Sunday
Asubo Ladies 0 St Noa Girls 1
May has been a month to remember for St Noa Girls Secondary School, as their women’s football team clinched the USSSA Girls Football Championship and earned promotion to the FUFA Women Super League for the 2025/2026 season.
The Entebbe Road-based school is fast establishing itself as a powerhouse in Ugandan women’s football under the guidance of coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera, who oversees the institution's teams from the U-15 level to the senior side that just secured a spot in the topflight league.
Just two weeks after edging Amus College 5-3 on penalties to lift the USSSA Girls football title in Bukedea, St Noa added another feather to their cap by winning the FUFA Women Elite League (FWEL). They defeated rivals Asubo Ladies 1-0 in the playoff final played at Kabaka Kyabaggu grounds in Wakiso District on Sunday.
Sylvia Kabene, who was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), scored the decisive goal in the final, capping off an outstanding campaign that not only secured promotion but also showcased her individual brilliance.
St Noa dominated the Elizabeth Group during the regular season where they finished unbeaten with 32 points and conceding just a single goal which is a testament to both their attacking and defensive strength.
The year 2025 has been exceptional for St Noa’s football program. In February, they lifted the Elite Secondary Schools Games trophy after a commanding victory over Ugandan football giants Kawempe Muslim Secondary School. Additionally, the team represented Uganda at the CAF Africa Schools Games in Ghana, and won a silver medal after finishing runners-up to hosts Ghana. This performance brought pride and recognition to Ugandan women football.
In the FWEL campaign, St Noa’s dominance extended to individual accolades, Kabene was named MVP, while Lilian Nakirya, who conceded only once all season, claimed the Best Goalkeeper award.
Meanwhile, Asubo Ladies also had a remarkable season. Despite falling short in the playoff final, they secured promotion back to the topflight by topping the Victoria Group with 29 points. Their head coach Ibrahim Kibumba expressed pride in the team's immediate bounce-back following last season’s relegation. His side were also honoured with the Fair Play Team of the Season award.
The league’s top scorer accolade went to Faith Akol of Goldstar Ladies, who scored 13 goals.
