Kampala Queens FC have strengthened their squad by signing two Ethiopian players, Amedu Meadin Sahilu and Tone Turist Lema.

The move comes as the team prepares for the CAF Women’s Champions League and CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.

The CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers will run from September 4 to 16 in Nairobi Kenya.

“We are happy to unveil Amedu Meadin Sahilu and Tone Turist Lema as the newest additions to Kampala Queens FC,” the club said in an official statement.

“With rich experience in the Ethiopia Women’s Premier League and international caps for the Ethiopia Women’s National Team, they bring quality, composure, and versatility to our squad.”

The duo brings valuable international and league experience, and their presence is expected to boost the team’s chances of qualifying for the final tournament of the CAF Women’s Champions League 2025.

Kampala Queens will represent Uganda at the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers after winning the 2024/2025 FUFA Women Super League.

The regional tournament will bring together eight clubs from across East and Central Africa, with only one team earning a ticket to the final continental tournament.

The team also confirmed some internal changes. Jamirah Nabulime renewed her stay at the club, while Nagadya Catherine signed a new contract that keeps her at the Palace until 2027.

On the other hand, the club confirmed the departure of defender Nakibuuka Asia, who has joined Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC ahead of the new season.

The CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers will feature eight teams: Kampala Queens (Uganda), Top Girls Academy FC (Burundi), Kenya Police Bullets (Kenya), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan), JKT Queens (Tanzania), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC (Ethiopia), Rayon Sports Women FC (Rwanda), and JKU Princesses FC (Zanzibar).

CECAFA has scheduled the tournament to end before September 18th, 2025, to allow players to join their national teams for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The winner of the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers will qualify to represent the region at the CAF Women’s Champions League 2025.
