Fresh off their third consecutive title at the East Africa Netball Club Championships, Kampala University’s men’s netball team is now setting its sights on a bigger challenge: the prestigious Diamond League tournament, scheduled for October in South Africa.
Buoyed by their recent success, the team is training intensively as they prepare to compete on a larger continental stage.
Head coach Jesse Asiimwe expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness and growth. “Men’s netball has come a long way, and I believe we can achieve even more in South Africa. Kenya used to dominate this sport, but we’ve now overtaken them. I trust my team, and I’m confident we’ll come back victorious,” Asiimwe said.
The team’s drive is fueled not only by talent and determination but also by strong institutional backing. Ronald Kamoga, a finance consultant at Kampala University, emphasized the university’s continued support. “We’ve been aware of the team’s participation in the Diamond League from the beginning. As a university, we are fully committed to helping our athletes reach their highest potential,” Kamoga stated.
The Diamond League, one of Africa’s most competitive netball tournaments, offers Kampala University a platform to showcase its prowess beyond the East African region. With momentum, strategic preparation, and unwavering support, the team is determined to elevate Uganda’s presence in continental netball.
