Kampala Queens suffered their first defeat in the ongoing CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers. They went down 2-1 to Buja Queens from Burundi at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Forward Topister Situma was the hero for Buja as she scored in both halves while substitute Elizabeth Nakigozi picked a consolation for the home side late.

Kampala made a lot of defensive errors that cost them. The partnership of Asia Nakibuuka and Lukiya Namubiru in the centre of defence struggled to stop Buja players especially Topister Situma from penetration in the final third.

The 19 days tournament that is being held at Njeru and Lugogo has nine teams placed in two groups. Kampala Queens, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), F.A.D from Djibouti, Buja Queens, and Yei Joint Stars are in group A while Tanzania’s JKT Queens, Vihiga Queens from Kenya, AS Kigali from Rwanda, and New Generation from Zanzibar are in group B.

Kampala Queens will return to action Friday when they host Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in another tricky encounter.

The winners of the regional qualifier will earn a ticket to the final tournament that will take place in Ivory Coast in November.

The CAF Women’s Champions League was introduced to develop women’s football products in Africa. It features top teams from all over the continent.
