In a jaw-dropping encounter, the UCU Lady Cardinals' aspirations to remain in the FUFA Women Super League were dealt a blow as Latifah Nakasi's double strike sealed a 2-1 victory for Uganda Martyrs.

Despite a spirited second-half performance, the Cardinals, who previously succumbed to league leaders Kawempe, found themselves unable to secure a win at home.

“We are fit and our target is now to win our next game to make sure we at least finish second because the trophy is impossible now,” remarked Uganda Martyrs coach Edward Kasozi

The Cardinals' bench introduced fresh legs in the form of Atimango Winfred, Harima Kanyango, and Sandra Kisakye, aiming to energise their attack. However, their efforts fell short of overturning the deficit. A late resurgence saw striker Jovia Nakagolo netting a consolation goal, but it wasn't enough to salvage a point for the home side.

"As a team, we are preparing to ensure that the remaining games are handled as finals to keep us in the league. We lost the game at home. We had a lot of chances but did not convert them." UCU Coach Oketayot Francis stated.

In a surprising turn of events, Wakiso Hill emerged victorious against the formidable Kawempe, with Nakasumba Fatuma and Rashida Nankya contributing to a 2-1 triumph. This result has put a pause on Kawempe's championship celebrations, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the league.

Kawanda's home team, Asubo Ladies, faced disappointment as they were edged out by a single goal from Rines SS, courtesy of Catherine Wujja's decisive strike.

On Saturday, Makerere will battle it out with She Maroons at 3 pm to, while Sunday will see reigning champions Kampala Queens take on the challenge from the Masindi-based Lady Doves FC.
