Kawempe Muslim Ladies WFC missed a glorious opportunity to open up a three-point gap at the top of the FUFA Women Super League table after surrendering a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Makerere University at the Valley Grounds on Wednesday.

Kawempe led this match 2-0 through Yudaya Nakayenze’s brace in the 35th and 47th minutes respectively and looked in control of this contest until the 83rd minute when Sharon Namatovu pulled one back for Makerere to set up a grand stage finish.

Namatovu’s goal disorganised Kawempe players after they started making panicking decisions while giving away cheap fouls that landed them in big trouble in stoppage time.

It was through a free kick that Daphine Nalubowa broke the hearts of Kawempe fans and on the other hand sent the few travelling Makerere fans into wild cheers when she drew her side level in the 89th minute making it 2-2.

Makerere nearly won it in stoppage time but Namatovu’s header failed to find the right connection and Kawempe survived what would have been a devastating evening inside their backyard.

The stalemate meant that Kawempe stayed top of the standings with 14 points, one more than second-placed defending champions Kampala Queens.

Makerere University, on the other hand, moved to fifth place on seven points.

This was a rescheduled match that was initially supposed to be played in November but both teams had players engaged with the national duties. It also meant that all the 10 teams in the division played six games each.

Match day seven starts this weekend at different venues across the country.
