Two arrested over house fire in Buikwe
According to police, the owner of the house, identified as Lawrence Otuki, had gone to appear before an LC1 meeting after reportedly receiving a summons over a complaint made by a neighbour, identified as Babirye Margret.

BUIKWE - Police in Buikwe district have arrested two people in connection with a suspected arson incident in which a mud-and-wattle house and its contents were destroyed by fire.
The incident occurred on September 2, 2026, at about midday in Gimbo cell, Kiyindi ward, Kiyindi town council.
According to police, the owner of the house, identified as Lawrence Otuki, had gone to appear before an LC1 meeting after reportedly receiving a summons over a complaint made by a neighbour, identified as Babirye Margret.
Otuki reportedly went to the meeting with his children and was waiting for the complainant when he received information that smoke was coming from his home.
He reportedly rushed back and found the house on fire.
Police said the entire house was destroyed and household property was also burnt.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. They were identified as Lawrence Asotoki, 30, and Babirye, also known as Mama Esther, 40.
Police have not yet disclosed the specific circumstances linking the two suspects to the fire, as inquiries are still ongoing.
Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson, said the suspects were in police custody as investigators continued establishing what happened. The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire and the events preceding it.
Body found in abandoned toilet

In a separate development, police in Buikwe district are investigating the discovery of the body of an unidentified person in an abandoned toilet in Lugazi II village.
The body was discovered on September 2, according to a police statement.
Police said Councillor Betty Namatovu Kasozi reported the discovery after residents found the body inside a toilet that had reportedly been abandoned and was no longer in use.
The identity of the deceased had not been established by the time of the report.
Police officers responded to the scene, and the body was evacuated to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for further examination.
Butoto said inquiries were ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police said further details would be provided as investigations progress.
