KAMULI - Police in Kamuli district are investigating a fatal shooting in which a 41-year-old man was shot dead during an altercation at a boxing event in Kamuli Municipality.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 am on September 6, 2026, at Muzuri Guest House and Bar in Bunangwe zone, Kamuli Municipality, where a boxing event had been organised.
The deceased was identified as Hussein Tenywa, who sustained a gunshot wound during a confrontation at the venue and died at the scene.
Preliminary police findings indicate that a disagreement arose over access to the boxing event before the confrontation escalated, resulting in the discharge of a firearm.
Police were alerted at about 12:39 am and responded to the scene, where they commenced investigations and recovered exhibits believed to be relevant to the case.
Samson Lubega, the Busoga North Regional Police spokesperson, said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were still being investigated, including the events that preceded the fatal confrontation. The shooter is yet to be identified.
The body was conveyed to Kamuli General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police have since arrested the proprietor of the guest house and bar to assist investigators in establishing what happened and determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Other people believed to have been involved in the incident are also being traced.
Investigators are examining not only the shooting but also the organisation of the boxing event, including whether the organisers had obtained the necessary approvals and put in place appropriate security and regulatory arrangements.
Lubega appealed to people who witnessed the incident or have credible information that could help identify those responsible to report to the nearest police station.
He said police were handling the investigation professionally and warned that anyone found to have acted unlawfully would face the law.
Investigations into the shooting remain ongoing, with police expected to provide further details as more facts emerge.
