Woman stabbed to death in Mityana, husband sought

MITYANA - Police in Mityana are investigating the killing of a 33-year-old businesswoman whose body was discovered inside her rented house in Mizigo B cell, North ward, Busimbi division, Mityana municipality, about three days after she was allegedly killed.
The deceased, identified as Patience Ainembabazi, was found dead after residents raised an alarm over a foul smell coming from the locked two-roomed house.
The matter was reported at about 2:00 am on September 6, 2026, by Ronald Kizito, the Mizigo B cell chairperson, after residents alerted him to the smell.
Police said Ainembabazi's husband, identified only as Salongo Mukiga, is suspected to have stabbed her several times following a disagreement that allegedly degenerated into a physical fight.
The suspect is alleged to have locked the body inside the house before fleeing the area.
The body was found in the sitting room with stab wounds on the back and hands, as well as a deep cut on the neck.

Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, said the knife and blood samples had been recovered for forensic examination.
“The exhibit of the knife and blood swabs recovered at the scene are going to be subjected to forensic analysis by the Government Analytical Laboratory,” Kigozi said.
Police said they had recorded statements from witnesses as investigations continued. The body was taken to Mityana General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
“We appeal to members of the public in Mityana who know Salongo Mukiga, the suspect, to inform police immediately upon sighting him,” Kigozi said.
Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged domestic dispute and the events that led to Ainembabazi's death.
The incident comes against a backdrop of persistent domestic violence in Uganda.
According to the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025, police recorded 12,361 domestic violence cases in 2025, down 12.2% from 14,073 cases in 2024.
The report said disputes over family property, failure to provide for the family, drug and alcohol abuse, and infidelity were among the leading causes of domestic violence. Mityana recorded the highest number of domestic violence cases at the district or divisional level, with 485 cases in 2025.
However, while reported domestic violence cases declined nationally, murders resulting from domestic violence increased from 183 in 2024 to 208 in 2025, a 13.7% rise. Of the 208 victims, 92 were female adults, 89 were male adults, 14 were male juveniles, and 13 were female juveniles.
