Three die, 10 injured in Iganga-Mbale highway crash
Speaking to New Vision online today (September 30), Busoga East regional police spokesperson Michael Kasadha identified the deceased persons as Police Constable Abasi Musomoki, who was travelling as a passenger; Ruutu Ruja Higenyi, 52, a resident of Jinja; and Ramathan Guloba, 39, a taxi conductor.
"We shall release the names of the injured persons once they are confirmed by police from the hospitals treating them," Kasadha said.

NAMUTUMBA - Three people, including a police officer, have died in a road crash on the Iganga-Mbale Highway in Namutumba district.
The fatal accident that occurred at about 7:30am on Tuesday (September 29) at Kalamira village in Magada sub-county also left 10 other people seriously injured.
The accident happened when a Toyota Hiace taxi, which was travelling from Kampala to Mbale, collided head-on with a Sinotruck, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
According to police, the taxi driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he lost control and collided with the oncoming Sinotruck.
Speaking to New Vision online today (September 30), Busoga East regional police spokesperson Michael Kasadha identified the deceased persons as Police Constable Abasi Musomoki, who was travelling as a passenger; Ruutu Ruja Higenyi, 52, a resident of Jinja; and Ramathan Guloba, 39, a taxi conductor.
The 10 injured passengers were rushed to Iganga Hospital and other health facilities in Iganga and Mbale districts for treatment.
"We shall release the names of the injured persons once they are confirmed by police from the hospitals treating them," Kasadha said.
He said both vehicles were towed and parked at Namutumba Central Police Station pending inspection.
The bodies of the three deceased persons were conveyed to Iganga Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The accident comes amid continued police warnings to motorists against dangerous driving, a major cause of fatal crashes on highways.
Traffic statistic
While releasing the 2025 annual traffic statistics in April this year, Traffic and Safety Directorate Director at the Uganda Police Force, Lawrence Niwabiine, said a total of 26,044 road traffic crashes were reported in 2025, compared to 25,107 crashes recorded in 2024, representing an increase of 3.7%
Niwabiine said that of the 26,044 crashes, 4,602 were fatal, meaning that one or more lives were lost, while 13,563 were serious and 7,879 were minor.
He appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the roads and avoid reckless overtaking.
