Suspect Nsamba charged with murder of Afrigo legend Moses Matovu
Nsamba was not allowed to plead to the charge because murder is a grave offence that the magistrate said the court does not have jurisdiction to try.

The Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded Vincent Arnold Nsamba, 47, to Luzira Upper Prison until November 3, 2026, over the alleged murder of veteran Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.
Nsamba, alias Sitenda, a driver and resident of Agip zone, Kibuli parish, Makindye division in Kampala, appeared before Senior Grade One Magistrate Aidah Nanjala and was charged with murder contrary to sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act.
Nsamba was not allowed to plead to the charge because murder is a grave offence that the magistrate said the court does not have jurisdiction to try.
"This court has no powers to try your case. You have a right to apply for bail before the High Court,” Nanjala told him.
The magistrate subsequently remanded Nsamba to Luzira Upper Prison until November 3, 2026, when the case will come up for mention.
According to the charge sheet dated September 27, 2026, Nsamba allegedly committed the offence on September 24, 2026, at Market ‘B’ zone, Kibuli parish, Makindye division in Kampala.
The charge sheet alleges that Nsamba, with malice aforethought, caused the death of Matovu.
The case was registered at Kabalagala Police Division under CRB 1072/2026.
According to preliminary police findings, Matovu had gone to the residence of a woman identified as Rose Tusiime in the early hours of September 24. Police allege that as the two were leaving the residence, they were confronted by Nsamba.
A confrontation reportedly followed, during which Matovu sustained injuries. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, where he later died.
Police subsequently arrested Nsamba in Nansana, Wakiso district, following an operation by detectives.
Investigators also searched his residence and recovered clothes which police said he had worn on the day Matovu was killed.
Police later reconstructed the alleged crime scene at Kibuli Market as part of investigations into Matovu’s death.
Matovu was a founding member of Afrigo Band, which was formed in 1975. He was also a prominent figure in Uganda’s music industry during his decades with the band.
