BUGWERI - Police in Bugweri district are investigating two incidents of electricity infrastructure vandalism, including one that led to the arrest of a suspected illegal power connector.
Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma told journalists at the joint weekly security briefing in Naguru, Kampala on August 11, 2025, that in the first incident, suspected vandals climbed six electricity poles in Namalende village and stole about 400 metres of wire between 8:00pm and 9:00pm.
In the second case, which occurred on August 10 in Kireku Parish, Luwero district, residents reported a sudden power outage around a church. The following morning, they found electricity cables hanging loosely.
“Police deployed a canine unit, which tracked and led us to one Charles Katamba, an electrician in Kiwanguzi Zone. He was found with electric wire exhibits and is now in custody,” Kituuma said.
Kituuma warned that vandalism of power infrastructure disrupts essential services and will be met with “the full wrath of the law.”
