MOROTO - A total of 1,296 election constables has completed a two-week intensive training in Mt Moroto Police region held at the Moroto Municipality Primary School playgrounds.

The youthful force was drawn from five districts of Napak, Moroto, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripirit and Amudat.

However, the group will act as a force multiplier across Karamoja region as the country heads into the 2026 General Election to ensure a peaceful process and public safety.

Edirisa Kyeyune, the newly deployed Mt Moroto region Police commander, said the special Police constables (SPCs) have been equipped with adequate knowledge and various skills to handle the electoral process.

He added that the abilities constituted public order management, professionalism and martial arts aimed at enhancing physical fitness. Others were self-control, confidence and the ability to respond effectively under pressure.

“As election constables, you will play a critical role in maintaining peace before, during and after the electoral process,” Kyeyune said, emphasising that the SPCs will ensure the voters, electoral officials and materials are protected.

He appealed to the constables to exercise neutrality, be firm and at all times respect human rights, adding that the communities in Karamoja are closely knit.

“We should try our best not to allow emotions to arise,” Kyeyune said, adding that the conduct will directly influence public confidence and stability.

He congratulated the SPCs for completing the intensive training focused on practicality and tailored to the security uniqueness of Karamoja.

Thus, “the region demands discipline, patience, cultural sensitivity and resilience,” Kyeyune further said.

Presiding over the pass-out, Moroto Resident District Commissioner Benon Kwikiriza told the graduates to uphold the values of the Uganda Police Force as they serve the community in their respective districts.

He commended the instructors for preparing the constables in a very short time, asking the SPCs to consider themselves lucky for embarking on the journey to join the Uganda police force in the future.

Karamoja Police region spokesperson Mike Longole on December 18, 2025, said the SPCs will be engaged for three months with a salary of shillings 469,000, up from 370,200 during the 2021 elections.
