One arrested after fatal stabbing in Rubanda
The suspect, identified as Enock Ainamani, is currently in police custody on a charge of murder, according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Nelson Tumushime.

The Territorial Police in Rubanda District have arrested one person in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old man, who was stabbed to death during a fight at Ihanga Trading Centre.
The suspect, identified as Enock Ainamani, is currently in police custody on a charge of murder, according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Nelson Tumushime.
The deceased has been identified as Stephen Ainembabazi, a resident of Kiruruma Cell, Ihanga Parish in Bubaare Sub-county.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 27, 2026, at around 10:00pm in Kiruruma Cell within Ihanga Trading Centre.
It is alleged that the deceased and other individuals, who are still at large, got into a quarrel that quickly escalated into a serious fight.
During the scuffle, one of the assailants allegedly stabbed Ainembabazi in the chest with a knife. He succumbed to the injury almost immediately.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to track down the other individuals believed to have been involved in the fight.

Police have renewed it's appeal to members of the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands, urging communities to instead use available legal channels to resolve disputes and grievances.
Murder statistics
According to the 2025 annual crime report released early this year, police recorded 4,238 homicide cases in 2025, a slight decrease from 4,329 cases reported in 2024.
The victims included 3,397 adult males, 550 adult females, 173 male juveniles, and 148 female juveniles. Of these, 338 victims were killed through hacking, compared to 310 in 2024.
An analysis of data indicates that the motives behind these killings largely stemmed from land disputes, domestic violence, acts of mob justice, family misunderstandings, crimes of passion and business rivalries.
