Security agencies have arrested a parent, who has been on the run after allegedly beating to death an 18-year-old student, after accusing him of having a love affair with his daughter.
Herbert Musasizi, 41, a resident of Mabanda Cell, Gombe division in Wakiso district, was arrested on Friday in Gulu over the murder of Martin Bukenya on February 14. Bukenya was a student at Hillside Secondary School in Matugga.
“Good people, we have tracked and arrested the man who killed a young student in Matugga for being in love with his daughter on Valentine’s Day. The man has been arrested from Gulu,” said Maj. Gen. Christopher Ddamulira, the Director of Crime Intelligence.
According to a statement released on Friday evening by Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, the deceased was a resident of Kirinyabigo, Kawanda, in Nabweru division.
According to Kawala, the suspect allegedly beat the student to death after finding him in his house with his daughter.
She assured the public that the suspect was in police custody as investigations continue.
The suspect, according to the picture taken of him, looked worried. The police were yet to reveal details of how they tracked him down and the exact spot where he was apprehended.
The death of the student drew wide condemnation from the public, with many people questioning the parent’s extreme anger and response to a matter that would have been handled through other channels.
