Police have arrested five suspected robbers accused of orchestrating a string of violent motorcycle thefts across the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area.
The suspects Benard Ndaula alias Twine, Sulaiman Sekatawa, Joseph Nakana, Herbert Kabugho, and George Kalatungye were by late Friday still detained at Katwe Police Station as investigations continue.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala has revealed that the arrests followed a complaint filed on February 16, 2026, by one Mukasa, who reported that his motorcycle, registration number UGE 242Y (Bajaj Boxer), had been stolen.
“Preliminary investigations established that the complainant had entrusted his motorcycle to Benard Ndaula to operate. Ndaula later returned and claimed that unknown persons had stolen it from him,” Kawala said.
Upon interrogation, Ndaula confessed to staging the theft with the help of his accomplices.
“His confession led to an intelligence-led operation in Makindye I Parish, Makindye Division, where four additional suspects were arrested,” Kawala explained.
During the operation, police recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle and a motorcycle engine believed to have been dismantled for resale.
Investigations have since revealed that the suspects allegedly targeted victims by posing as boda boda riders.
They would reportedly lure unsuspecting cyclists or clients into dark and isolated areas before robbing them of their motorcycles.
“These suspects have been targeting riders within the Kampala Metropolitan area. They trick victims by pretending to be fellow boda boda operators and then divert them to secluded locations where they carry out the robberies.
Our records indicate that some of them have previously been arrested and prosecuted for similar offences and have been in and out of prison,” Kawala added.
