YUMBE - Leaders in Yumbe district have arrested and handed over to the Police a 23-year-old man for allegedly involving himself in collecting bribes from job applicants in the ongoing recruitment exercise in the district.

Yumbe district is currently carrying out a massive recruitment exercise for teachers, health workers and other cadres.

Habib Juma alias Yeta who introduced himself to applicants as an agent to some members of Yumbe district service commission was arrested on Tuesday and detained at Yumbe central police station following complaints from a relative of an applicant identified as Nancy Adongo who allegedly paid sh2m to be absorbed as an enrolled nurse in the district but failed to make it through.

According to Abdulmutalib Asiku, the LC5 chairman Yumbe district, it was Adongo's relatives who contributed the money.

"After realizing that she was not successful, they started following up the matter and names of two staff of Yumbe district local government were mentioned and it's through the two staff that the arrest was made," Asiku said.

Meanwhile the soft copies of the mobile money transaction made between Nancy Adongo and Habib Juma that New Vision obtained indicate sh2m was sent to Habib in two different occasions .

The first sh512000 was on February, 21 with transaction ID 1510061162 and the last sh1,523,000 with transaction ID 15261251322 was sent made on March, 9.

Meanwhile, Hakim Tibu, the senior human resource officer Yumbe whom Habib alleged to have been part of the deal equally denied the allegations.
