One person was killed on Friday morning following a crash involving a concrete mixer and a truck along the Kampala-Jinja Highway in Seeta, Mukono district.
Michael Kananura, the spokesperson of the Traffic Directorate, said this had prompted them to divert traffic.
“This morning, Police registered a fatal accident at Seeta involving a concrete mixer and a truck, which unfortunately claimed one life. Efforts are currently underway to have the vehicles towed away in order to restore smooth traffic flow,” he said earlier.
Following the crash, Police appealed to all motorists to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion in the affected area.
“We regret the loss of life and extend our condolences to the family of the deceased. Further details will be communicated in due course,” said Kananura.
Police also apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their cooperation.
The diversion had created a huge traffic snarl-up in several roads in and around Seeta and Bweyogerere.
This was not the first time a concrete mixer has been involved in an accident causing death.
In April last year, lawyer Rapheal Okiot was killed after the driver of a cement mixer truck lost control and rammed into the barriers in the middle of the road before falling onto him on Entebbe Road in Wakiso district.
