A Canadian pastor has admitted to obtaining sh22 billion from an investor for a 50 kg gold transaction.
Didier Borromee Bitome Kifoueti, a 55-year-old Congolese national residing at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, was brought before the court and charged with obtaining money by false pretences and conspiracy to commit a felony.
He was charged alongside Marcel Christian Nayamoutet, a 46-year-old Cameroonian national and information technology manager also residing at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, and Hassan Katende, a 37-year-old resident of Kakunule zone in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
The three appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Nicholas Aisu at City Hall Court, where the charges were read. Didier admitted to obtaining the money but denied the conspiracy to commit a felony with his co-accused, who all denied the charges against them.
The offences
Prosecution charge sheet presented to court on Friday by State Attorney Mercy Yamangusho states that Didier, Marcel, Katende and others still at large, between January and February 2026 at Serena Hotel Kampala, with intent to defraud, obtained money worth $600,000 (about sh200b) from Ahamed Mossaad Muhmoud Hassan Abouized.
It’s alleged that the accused persons falsely pretended that they were selling to him 50 kilograms of gold whereas not.
It’s further alleged that the accused persons, between January and February 2026 at Serena Hotel Kampala, conspired together to commit a felony by obtaining money by false pretence worth $600,000.
The offence is contrary to section 285 and section 301(1) and 3 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128, respectively.
Yamangusho told the court that the brief facts about the matter were not prepared but requested another date to have them for Didier, who pleaded guilty.
She further told the court that investigations in the matter are still ongoing.
The accused were remanded to Luzira on October 21, 2026, for mention of the case and presenting the brief facts.
