ARUA - Police in Arua Central Business Division in the West Nile sub-region have impounded 27 suspected stolen motorcycles.

At about 6:00 am on Tuesday (June 16), police officers, accompanied by a suspect in custody, recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle allegedly parked at Hidmola Hotel, formerly Republic Hotel, along Lemerijoa Road in Obolokofuku cell, Central ward, Arua city.

According to police, after recovering the motorcycle, the suspect pointed out other suspected stolen motorcycles within the same parking yard.

The scene contained numerous unregistered motorcycles, prompting police to impound a total of 27 motorcycles without number plates.

North West Nile regional police spokesperson Josephine Angucia said all the impounded motorcycles had been taken to Arua City Central Business Division Police Station and parked pending verification and investigations.

Police said many people whose motorcycles had previously been stolen were already visiting the police station to verify whether any of the recovered motorcycles belonged to them after learning about the operation.

Angucia urged members of the public to continue sharing information with police to facilitate the recovery of more suspected stolen property and the arrest of those responsible.

In a related development, police in the North West Nile region conducted an intelligence-led operation on June 15, 2026, targeting suspected stolen motorcycles, motorcycles with altered number plates and those believed to be involved in cross-border crime.

North West Nile regional police spokesperson Collins Asea said the operation resulted in the impounding of 14 motorcycles and the detention of 13 suspects.

He said the operation was initiated in response to security concerns raised by members of the community.

Asea said screening of suspects and verification of motorcycle ownership would be conducted subsequently.
