Police in Wakiso District have launched investigations into a violent robbery captured on video showing a group of armed men attacking a man with pangas as he desperately cried out for his life.

The disturbing footage, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows several panga-wielding assailants surrounding the victim before repeatedly hacking and beating him as he pleaded for mercy.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, officers attached to Nsangi Police Division have taken up the matter and are actively investigating the attack.

“Our attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media depicting a group of men assaulting an individual using pangas. Police at Nsangi have taken up the matter, and investigations are actively underway,” Kawala said.

She said the incident occurred on June 15, 2026, at approximately 2:00 am in Kigwanya Zone, Nabbingo Parish, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso District.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the victim was returning home from work in the company of his girlfriend and was heading to their residence in Kigwanya Zone when they were ambushed by a group of about seven men armed with pangas.

“The assailants reportedly robbed the victim of his belongings before fleeing the scene,” Kawala said.

The viral video has sparked concern among residents, with the victim heard crying and begging for his life as the attackers descended on him. The assailants appear determined and coordinated as they carry out the attack before disappearing from the scene.

Kawala said police investigators are pursuing all available leads to identify those responsible.

“Our task team is making every effort to identify, trace and apprehend the suspects so they can be brought to justice,” she said.

Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding the attack or the identities of the suspects to share it with investigators.

Kawala said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
