, Paul Ssemogerere has graced the ordination of two Ugandans in Krakow, Poland.

The two Ugandans ordained deacons were Francis Musaanya and Francis Asiimwe. Deacon Musaanya is the son of Archbishop Ssemogerere’s brother, the late Deo Balyejjusa.

Archbishop Ssemogerere’s nephew, who joined the Conventual Franciscans several years ago, was being ordained as a deacon during this Mass last Saturday.

Asiimwe and Musaanya belong to the Franciscans Missionaries congregation serving in Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine.

During the event, Archbishop Ssemogerere thanked the friars of Krakow for opening a mission in Uganda 25 years ago, saying the mission continues helping and expanding Christians today.

He expressed particular appreciation for the vocational awareness and discernment work carried out by Fr Marian Golab, aka Fr Kajubi, who was a strong pillar in developing Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine, where the journey of the Martyrs to Namugongo started. Two of the Martyrs were executed at Munyonyo.

“Today, Munyonyo is a historical place in Uganda where thousands go for pilgrimage. The place was built to honour the Ugandan Martyrs, who gave up their lives for faith. The place of prayer and reflection is now a spiritual center for worship and devotion.”

Ssemogerere added that Munyonyo is one of the places Pope Francis visited during his pilgrimage to Uganda in 2015, and it holds the prestigious title of a Minor Basilica.
